For special education teachers

You became a teacher for your students. Not the paperwork.

SDI Studio is building tools for the paperwork side of special education, starting with IEP goals, with progress tracking, compliance deadlines and documentation planned. Every tool is built on your state's special education rules and shows the source behind each decision, so you can check its work quickly and spend the time you save with your students.

Why we built the Goal Generator

Special education comes with a compliance load most colleagues never see. Goals have to be measurable. Whether a goal needs short-term objectives or benchmarks depends on your state's rules, and those rules get revised without anyone telling you.

Getting all of that right takes hours that could go to teaching. We built the Goal Generator to give some of those hours back.

How it works

  1. Describe the student in plain language

Present levels, in the words you'd use talking to a colleague.

  2. Get a measurable goal and what the state requires for it

Including whether short-term objectives or benchmarks are required for this student.

  3. Check it, edit it, re-draft it

Read the rule it cited. Change the wording inline. Draft again until it's right.

Why every decision comes with a citation

IEP goals get questioned: by a coordinator, in a compliance review, by a parent's advocate across the table. When that happens, the rule is what you point to. SDI Studio puts it in front of you from the start.

Every decision lists the rule behind it

Each draft ends with its compliance basis: every requirement the Goal Generator applied, and the specific section of your state's rules, guidance or forms it comes from. Look it up, and if you disagree, you'll know exactly what you're disagreeing with.

  1. Goal timed to the annual IEP review

“Reviews the child's individualized education program periodically, but not less than annually, to determine whether the annual goals for the child are being achieved…”

    Ohio Admin. Code 3301-51-07(I)(2)(a)
  2. Transition planning included (student is 14)

“Beginning not later than the first individualized education program to be in effect when the child turns fourteen…”

    Ohio Admin. Code 3301-51-07

Every requirement a draft applies is listed like this, with its source.

Benchmarks that follow your state's rule

States set their own rules on when IEP goals need benchmarks or short-term objectives. The Goal Generator drafts to your state's rule, shows you the rule it applied, and writes each benchmark as a measurable step toward the annual goal. If your district has a usual number of benchmarks per goal, set it once and every goal starts from it.

The state rule

Ohio requires benchmarks or short-term objectives on every IEP goal.

Ohio Admin. Code 3301-51-07(E)(1)(c)
  1. By grading period 1Counts a set of like coins up to $1.007 of 10 trials, two sessions in a row
  2. By grading period 2Pays up to $0.50 with two kinds of coin7 of 10 trials, two sessions in a row
  3. By grading period 3Pays up to $0.75 with three or more kinds7 of 10 trials, two sessions in a row
  4. Annual goalPays for items up to $1.00 with any mix of coins8 of 10 trials, three sessions in a row
Each one is written out in full, for example

Given a visual price card and real coins, the student will select and count out a correct combination of two different coin types (e.g., nickels and pennies or dimes and pennies) to pay for items priced up to $0.50, in 7 out of 10 trials across two consecutive data collection sessions (by the end of the second grading period).

Edit it, then draft again

Change the wording right in the draft, or ask for a new one. Earlier drafts stay on the page, so you can go back to the version you liked.

  1. Edit the wording yourself

Given a grade-level passage, the student will read aloud, achieving 94 90 words correct per minute with at least 95% accuracy…

  2. Or say what to adjust, and draft again

“Work on vowel teams (ai, ea, oa) before multisyllabic words.”

  3. Every draft is kept

Where your students' information goes

Not to us.

SDI Studio runs on your computer. When it drafts a goal, your text goes directly from your machine to the AI model provider and the draft comes back. It never passes through a Bright Foundry server, and we have no copy of it.

What's built, and what's planned

Everything in SDI Studio sits on a database of state special education rules. Each fact is stored with its source and a history of changes, and the database is checked against official state sources every week. Ohio is the first state in it. The Goal Generator is the first tool built on it. The others are planned, and we'll mark them ready once teachers are using them.

Questions teachers ask

What does SDI Studio do today?

It drafts measurable IEP goals from your description of a student's present levels, tells you what the state requires for them, including whether short-term objectives or benchmarks are needed, and cites the rule behind each of those decisions. It doesn't write the whole IEP.

Is it free?

You'll be able to start free. We'll publish pricing before SDI Studio opens beyond early access.

Does it work on a Chromebook?

Not yet. SDI Studio runs on Windows and Mac today. A version that works in a browser is on our list. If you're on a Chromebook, say so on the early-access form so we know how many of you there are.

Can I install it on my school computer?

Often, yes. On Windows it installs for your own user account and doesn't need administrator rights. Some districts block new software entirely; if yours does, we're preparing an information sheet that answers what your IT team will ask.

Where does my students' information go?

From your computer directly to the AI model provider, and back. It never passes through a Bright Foundry server, and we keep no copy. More on how we handle data.

Is this legal advice? Does it guarantee compliance?

No. SDI Studio shows you the rule behind each suggestion so you can check it for yourself. You and your IEP team stay responsible for the IEP. The citations are there so you can check every decision yourself.

Which states do you support?

Ohio today. Special education rules are state-specific, so each new state takes real work to add. Choose your state on the early-access form. The answers will decide which state we add next.
